Five great reasons to study as an undergraduate at UTC in Belfast

Share:

Belfast is a great city. It is also an excellent place to go to University. Union Theological College is located right in the heart of the Queen’s Quarter in Belfast. We are ten minutes’ walk from the centre of Belfast and we have regular rail and bus connections right on our doorstep.

Here are five excellent reasons why you might want to consider coming to Belfast to study theology with us.

1.       We are a long-established theological college, founded in 1853 to train ministers for the work of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, a task which is still central to the College’s role. We inhabit an historic building in a wonderful city. The College was at one time the Parliament of Northern Ireland and remains one of the architectural treasures of Belfast; and we have the largest and most beautiful theological library in Northern Ireland. We partner with St Mary’s University, Twickenham, to deliver our Undergraduate programme.

2.       Belfast is also an ideal starting point from which to explore the rest of Ireland. Iconic locations such as the Giant’s Causeway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Mountains of Mourne or the Carrick-a-rede rope bridge, are easily accessible via Northern Ireland’s excellent public transport networks; while Dublin is only two hours away by rail. Belfast also has an impressive cultural scene, with numerous museums such as the Ulster Museum and Titanic Belfast, and a large variety of music venues, restaurants, sports clubs, etc.

3.       We are a vibrant, encouraging Christian community. We pray together, study together, and love our community. Our students consistently tell us that one of the things they love most about UTC is the close community. If you come to study here you will make friends with your fellow students really quickly. We have en-suite accommodation in the Gibson Chambers. We have a wonderful faculty, with teachers passionate about serving the Lord Jesus in teaching the faith.

Teaching Staff | Union Theological College

You will get to know your teachers well (especially through the daily coffee time each morning) and they will work hard to enable you to do as well as you possibly can. Staff and students have the opportunity to meet together to worship in the College Chapel three times a week, on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and Sunday evenings.

4.       We welcome everyone to study theology. We don’t require any faith commitment or cultural conformity. Our doors are open. We wrestle with hard questions and we ponder key Christian truths. We invite you to join us. Whether you went to grammar school or were home schooled; whether you grew up in the UK or have come from somewhere else; we invite you to join us.

5.       We offer competitive tuition fees. With excellent value accommodation and reasonably priced flights to Belfast from GB we hope this is another reason why you might consider joining us. Belfast is among the cheapest cities in the UK for students to live, and this helps those who choose Union to enjoy the academic and social sides of university life, thanks to the lighter financial burden compared to studying in the rest of the UK. In addition, there is the added benefit of graduating with lower student debt.
